Service Electrician Apprentice
A Service Electrician Apprentice assists licensed service electricians in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems while gaining practical, on-the-job training. This role focuses on troubleshooting and customer service in residential and commercial environments.
key responsibilities
- Assist in responding to service calls and troubleshooting electrical issues
- Help repair wiring, outlets, panels, breakers, and lighting systems
- Support installation and replacement of electrical components
- Learn to use testing equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers
- Maintain tools, materials, and a clean, organized work area
- Follow all safety procedures and electrical codes (including standards from the National Fire Protection Association)
- Observe and learn diagnostic techniques from experienced electricians
- Communicate professionally with customers when on job sites
- Document work performed and assist with service reports
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED
- Own hand tools required
- Enrollment in or willingness to join an electrical apprenticeship program
- Basic math and mechanical skills
- Strong willingness to learn and take direction
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments
- Valid driver’s license (often required)
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems or tools
- Previous construction or labor experience
- OSHA safety certification
