Service Electrician Apprentice

A Service Electrician Apprentice assists licensed service electricians in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems while gaining practical, on-the-job training. This role focuses on troubleshooting and customer service in residential and commercial environments.

key responsibilities

  • Assist in responding to service calls and troubleshooting electrical issues
  • Help repair wiring, outlets, panels, breakers, and lighting systems
  • Support installation and replacement of electrical components
  • Learn to use testing equipment such as multimeters and voltage testers
  • Maintain tools, materials, and a clean, organized work area
  • Follow all safety procedures and electrical codes (including standards from the National Fire Protection Association)
  • Observe and learn diagnostic techniques from experienced electricians
  • Communicate professionally with customers when on job sites
  • Document work performed and assist with service reports

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Own hand tools required
  • Enrollment in or willingness to join an electrical apprenticeship program
  • Basic math and mechanical skills
  • Strong willingness to learn and take direction
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments
  • Valid driver’s license (often required)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems or tools
  • Previous construction or labor experience
  • OSHA safety certification
